Community Information Session | Proposed Yorke Peninsula Shellfish Reef

The South Australian Government is rebuilding lost shellfish reef habitat across South Australia’s coast.  Join us to learn about the proposed locations of the Yorke Peninsula shellfish reefs and the science behind the site selection process.

Hear how mapping, modelling, environmental data and marine surveys have been used to identify the proposed sites, speak with project team members and ask questions.

Date: Monday 24 August 2026
Location: Port Vincent Town Hall

Drop-in session: 3 pm to 5 pm the team will be available for one-on-one conversations
Presentation: 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm (including a Q&A)

Speakers will include Adelaide University marine ecologist Dr Dominic McAfee, and The Nature Conservancy’s Oceans Coordinator (SA) Anita Thomas.

The Nature Conservancy Australia is delivering the large-scale limestone reef as part of the Rebuilding South Australia’s Lost Shellfish Reefs Program, a multi-year initiative to rebuild lost shellfish reef habitat across South Australia’s coastal waters. The program is led by the Department for Environment and Water, with joint investment from the South Australian and Australian Governments.

Everyone with an interest in South Australia’s marine environment is welcome.
